Partner Organizations
We are grateful to our partners who join us in our fight against pre-trial detention, carceral injustice, an institutionalised racism.
Joint Projects
Read about the work we are doing in collaboration with our partners.
Participatory Defense:
Our community partner, Families for Justice as Healing, runs weekly meetings for people who are being prosecuted and their families. These meetings are half support group, half strategic planning session. They will work with you to get the answers that you need.
Each week, they’ll check in about the status of your case, and work together to come up with next steps. The goal is to get to know each other and each other’s cases so people can help each other.
FJAH runs open meetings every Wednesday from 6-8pm on zoom. Visit their website for more information on how to get involved.
Court Watch MA:
Court Watch MA was a community supported project launched in 2019 to document how judges and prosecutors were treating our neighbors in courts. We wanted to hold the DA’s office publicly accountable to their promises of criminal justice reform. The project began in January 2019 with a 100 day sit-in in Suffolk County jails to hold the District Attorney's Office accountable for reducing pre-trial detention and addressing racial disparities. In September of 2019 we expanded to Essex County where we observed arraignments in courts. In Essex, we focused our documentation on bail amounts that were imposed and dangerousness hearings. In November 2021 we began court watch in South Bay jail court where unhoused, poor, and unwell folks continue to be targeted by the Boston Municipal Courts. All of our research as well as stories from inside the courts can be found here.
