MBF Volunteer Availability Survey
Interested in volunteering for the Bail Fund? Volunteering at the Bail Fund is a direct service opportunity - your time will be spent going to jails, posting bail, and freeing someone from jail who would otherwise remain incarcerated. We are looking for community volunteers for each of the facilities where we have or plan to have a presence. We are looking for volunteers who are independent, live in the communities where they would post bail, and have a commitment to our mission of ensuring that poor people get the same access to justice as those with money.

Prospective volunteers should:
- Have access to a vehicle. Most of the facilities where we post bail are not accessible by public transportation. There's a map below of where we post. Please note that transportation is not a service the Bail Fund offers generally, therefore volunteers are not asked to provide rides for clients.
- Commit to at least 1 evening per month. Bail can take between 2-6 hours and is only posted in the evening. We don't ask our volunteers for more than 1-2 nights per month, and the more volunteers we have, the more we can spread out the work.
- Have initial access to funds. Because we post bail all over the state, but our office is in Cambridge, we reimburse our volunteers electronically after bail has been posted. The system we use is secure but can take between 1-3 business days for the money to transfer successfully.
